چکیده

Introduction Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is an established cause of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and is associated with poor prognosis. High HBV deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) load has been identified in HCC and hepatitis B surface antigen-positive patients. Materials and methods This study was done in the Department of Hepatology, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, from January 2006 to December 2007. Thirty patients with HBV infection-related HCC were enrolled. Another 30 patients with HBV-related liver diseases without HCC were analyzed as controls. Results The HCC patients had a high viral load (>105 copies/mL), while all of the controls had low (<105 copies/mL) viral load. Conclusion It seems that patients with HCC bear high HBV DNA loads in Bangladesh, but the causes underlying this remain to be resolved. How to cite this article: Hussain MM, Al Mahtab M, Islam S, Ahmed N, Rahman S, Khan M. Relationship between hepatitis B DNA Viral load in the liver and it\'s histology in patient with chronic hepatitis B

Background: Serial measurement of  hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA levels in the liver and its relation with liver damage and serum HBV DNA levels are guide to begin and/or end a treatment course. This study evaluated the relationship between liver hepatitis B DNA viral load with liver histology in patients with chronic hepatitis B (HBV). Methods:  Thirty patients with chronic anti-Hbe positive ...

Evaluation of serum AFP (α-fetoprotein) level in HBsAg carrier patients for diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is common all over the world as well as Iran. The incidence of HCC is higher in hepatitis B carriers and it is highly recommended to periodically screen these patients by serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and liver ultrasound (US) every 6 months. We explore the diagnostic accuracy and the performance of (AFP) in cases of hepatitis B carriers as a scree...

Effects of sex and generation on hepatitis B viral load in families with hepatocellular carcinoma

AIM To explore factors associated with persistent hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in a cohort of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)-affected families and then investigate factors that correlate with individual viral load among hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)-positive relatives. METHODS We evaluated non-genetic factors associated with HBV replication in relatives of patients with HCC. Relati...

Long-term tracking of hepatitis B viral load and the relationship with risk for hepatocellular carcinoma in men.

Little is known about the longitudinal course of hepatitis B virus (HBV) load and its relationship with the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We conducted a case-cohort study nested within a cohort of 2874 HBV surface antigen-positive male Taiwanese government employees aged 30 years or older. HBV genotype and DNA levels (i.e. viral load) were tested using polymerase chain reaction...

The Relationship between Hepatitis C Genotypes and Viral Load: a study on hepatitis C patients in Kerman, Iran using Real-time PCR

Abstract Background: Distribution of hepatitis C virus genotypes varies geographically and can be associated with clinical aspects. The virus has six major genotypes and eleven sub-genotypes. According to the recent studies, in hepatitis C patients, treatment duration and ribavirin dosage should be determined based on the type of virus genotype. Be...
